Blog 10 English languaje and challenges

Finally this semester is ending. Yay!

I had fun in this class even when I'm still salty because I couldn't be exempt. I will not miss staying late in class nor doing this blogs, but I think I'll miss laughing so hard of our bad spanglish and the conversations of different topics.

So, back to the blog. To be honest, I don't know anyone that learned english in college and I know that's not what a teacher wants to hear, but it's true. All students that do this kind of course and don't know the language before, just struggles till the end and hope to pass. Hell, I even been asked if I can do their homework (and refusing politely, I don't want any extra work). Another thing, in my previous career it was necessary to know english because you had to read a lot of papers that wasn't in spanish, but in here I don't think is that crussial. I think this course is in the study programme to say that the student "knows English".

The blogs are fun kinda. I think this method is an interesting way to approach students to write english in a very casual way. An advice, I don't think talking 4 times of future plans of work/studies is necessary. One post and one video would be enough. Just my opinion.

I think I still need to learn how to talk properly and write better, grammar is a bitch. In my daily basis I use english everyday, my favorite youtubers speak that language and almost all the videogames I play or want to play are in english. In my case is learn or don't understand anything. So, to keep practicing my skill I will keep this method. Everyday I learn a new word or concept. I highly recommend learning this way. Search things that interest you and read or watch about it in english. Movies count too.

Post 9 Changes to my study programme

When I was in school I thought that the Universidad de Chile was the best. Now, with 3 years in this career and 4 more in my previous one, I can say that this university still exist because of the glorious past.

My career lasts 5 years, in the fourth year you get a degree and in the last year, after the thesis, you get the job tittle: artist. This "job tittle" is useless, of course. Please, tell me one job where one of the request is having the tittle of artist. Short answer: no job. The people in charge of the career want to change this and make art studies shorter in one semester, so it would lasts 4 years and a half to get the degree. That makes more sense in my head. Besides, if they want to promote that your students follow postgraduate studies, that is the best way.  Still, 4 years is more than enough. That half semester is BS.

Other thing I would change is some of the subjects. One is this useless subjects called "Curso Transversal", is an interdisiplinary class with the other art careers. Nobody learned nothing of the other careers, only hate group work. The other one is "Gestión de proyectos artísticos". I mean, is not that this is a bad subject. What bothers me is that this class only teach you to apply for art funds. They don't teach you how much your creations are worth and that is a huge problem. If you don't know the price of your work, then you can't know the fair price and that means that galleries and potential buyers may pay you less and you don't even know.

The methology differs from teacher to teacher. I hate this free spirit hippy thing that teachers just give you a grade and you don't even know why. They just feel it. I think a requirements table is a good idea to standardize  the grades. The technology is different in every workshop, but the ones that need more thing that they can't buy, like ovens, works really bad.

The buildings and infrastructure are sad. This faculty is falling apart piece by piece because nobody wants to pay for improvements. No ovens for the workshops that need it, no ceilings that works when it's raining. Even the floor tiles are bad.

This faculty only have the prestige. Nothing more.

Post 8 Personal Opinions

Well hello there.

Today I'll talk about my opinions in different topics. Here we go.

Tattoos. I have a few. I think that tattoos are great, is another way that can people express they individuality and  are no longer just for criminals. I like when people have a story behind the tattoo, like a memorial event or a loved one. But having a significant tattoo is not mandatory. You can have one just because it's cool, it doesn't matter and you're not stupid because of that. Also, I think it's very stupid for tattooed people to be discriminated against in the workplace. Having a tattoo does not make you more stupid than the rest of your co-workers.

Killing stay dogs is bread for today and hunger for tomorrow. The problem isn't that dogs are in the streets, the problem is that the owners doesn't take care of their dogs, they just throw them away like is not their business anymore, then the poor dogs do everything they can to survive and that means problems for the rest of the people. The population of dog need to be controlled, sterilize your pets is a good starter. In a country of Europe (I don't know which one) having an animal is very expensive, and because of that people think twice before having one. I think that paying some tax for every animal that you want to adopt is a way to stop this way of thinking that dogs are objects you can have and throw away when they bored you.

The mechoneo is outdated. Is a tradition that is just violent against the new students. Sometimes it just go too far, as if seniors simply released stress with them. Besides is a way of spend food and materials in general to humiliate kids. It should be changed to something more fun, make them play games like eating an apple doing "the koala" or crushing eggs by sitting in your partner. You know, games that make you meet your new classmates.

Abortion should be legal in any way but before the fetus is 3 months olds. Woman do it anyway illegal, people die because it is done clandestinely. If you legalize it, you can control this and it wouldn't be so traumatic for so many woman. Besides, before the 3 months the fetus doesn't have any nervous system. It's just a lot of cells group together.

Post 7 Music

I don't like one genre of music, I like several. I can't understand people who like only one type of music, how can you close the doors to other kind of music just because you decided to only listen one genre? I think that's kind of boring.

That said, my taste of music is like you put all genres in a blender. In fact, a friend once told me that my genre of music is the "one hit wonder". I only listen to the song that made that artist famous, mainly because I didn't want to hear the rest of the album. Besides, it's the most popular one, it has to be the better one. 

I do have my favorites genres tho. I like rock (indie and progressive are my favorites), peruvian waltzes, techno, OST of games that I like, synthwave, eurobit, old cumbias and classic song that you hear in new year (what a very good soup or like we say "Watanegui consup"), kpop. I can still going.

Rock and emo were my first love in my teenage years. The lyrics of songs of linkin park or, my personal favorite, three days grace just talked to me. The outcast feeling or not be undestood by your friends and family. Classic teenager. I also loved the songs that talked about being rejected.  I still love that kind of songs.

I am tempted to put a song of three days grace, but I'm not that teenager girl anymore. I listen the full album now when I like a band. My current obsessions are Porcupine tree and Tame impala. Can you belive tame impala is just one guy that plays all the instruments and also sing?

Post 6 Posgraduate Studies

I think this is like the third time I talk about this. 

The plan for now is, after I finish plastic arts, I'm going to keep studying pedagogy here, in la Chile. I'm considering if this is the university that I want to do my posgraduate study. A friend of mine told me that in la Cato you can graduate of pedagogy in one year, so... it's quicker and tempting.

I just want to graduate, man. I'm tired of studying. I've been in the university for almost 8 years (different careers). Because of that I think I won't do any other master or phD in the near future. Maybe I'll specialize in another thing after I work a few years when I can pay for my studies. If that's the case, I would prefer a part-time course in the evenings. The opportunity of "only studying" is only for this career.

As I talked in the last post, one option of my future is doing a postgraduate study of art therapy. Since we talked a lot of future plans I just read the requirements, the graduate profile and stuff like that and I'm surprise. That is an option that adjust to my plans. I need at least 4 years of work experience, have a degree in arts or education (I will have both), have experience with therapy. Yeah, I think I just found my future plans. Thanks teacher.
 

Post 5 My future job

The future scares me.

When I entered in this career, the most common question (besides "are you serious?") was "What are you gonna work in?". The plan for now is been able to be a teacher. When I was in school I hated almost every subject, but in the last 4 years I had a teacher that I truly loved. All the things she taught me was kind of useful in a way or another (for a hobby or a halloween costume). I want to give that experience to kids, arts can be fun. So I would work in schools or maybe workshops.

I don't expect a great salary, in Chile being a teacher isn't the job to be rich. If I wanted money I would have stayed in the other career, the medical area is more lucrative. 

But I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket because I don't know if I'll like being a teacher. That's why I'm in this career. There's a lot of majors that I can take. If pedagogy isn't my field, maybe something with health and art. I can't remember the extact name, but it's something about therapy with art. That's two of the things that I like. Double help.

There's a plan C. I want to learn how to tattoo but I don't think it's my field. I mean I like been tattoo but I don't know if I would be a good tattoo artist. I like the idea of working in a studio, maybe have something of my own. I could travel with that, but traveling is kind of a pain in the ass for me (see post 1).

Post 4: Favorite Food

I love food so much. Food is what makes me move (literally?), what I think 24/7, the thing that I do when I'm bored (I'm trying to stop doing that, I don't want to gain weight again).

The food I enjoy is mostly junk food, I can't help myself. I like pizza, french fries with burgers, tacos, sushi (is sushi a junk food?). Anything that is fried is my jam. However, my favorite food is not fried. I love pasta with passsion: the sauces, the different kind of pasta with a lot of parmesan cheese. I know that cheese in pasta isn't a very italian thing, I get that it absorves all the flavor of the rest of the dish, but I doN'T CARE. I like the pasta I eat here. I eat everytime I can. Sspaghetti is the most common one in my house so is the one I eat at least once a week.

It's hard to me to choose one of the different kinds of pasta, it's all so different between them. When I was a kid, my parents took my brother and I to different restaurants to treat ourselfs. The favorite one for a while was The Piccola Italia, an italian restaurant. Since I didn't know wich one to choose, my father always told me we could share the "fontana di pasta", a dish that have a little of every pasta: ravioli, fettuccine, cannelloni, lasagna, gnocchi, etc. Wait, maybe I have a favorite one. I always ate the cannelones because I love the combination of spinach, meat and cream.  Anyway, we went to that restaurant for quite a few months, until someone told my dad that the pasta was not freshly made. 

I'm hungy now.
